Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof announced that the bill could be tabled in the Dewan Rakyat as early as the next parliamentary sitting, depending on its final readiness.

Speaking in Sarawak, Fadillah emphasized that the government is treating the issue with gravity due to its detrimental social impact on the younger generation. Authorities are currently evaluating whether the new measures will be introduced as a standalone act or incorporated into existing frameworks, such as the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 or cybercrime regulations.

The move comes as illegal gambling shifts from physical storefronts to mobile devices and social media. Data from 2025 showed that Facebook accounted for approximately 93% of reported illegal gambling advertisements. Once enacted, the law is expected to strengthen enforcement mechanisms and improve coordination between the police, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and other relevant agencies to effectively block access to gambling platforms.
