Poland Strengthens Online Gaming Payment Controls as BLIK Introduces Transaction Blocking

Poland’s BLIK payment system has introduced a new mechanism to automatically block transactions linked to unauthorized online Gaming platforms, strengthening payment compliance across both domestic and cross-border transactions.

Poland has taken another step to strengthen payment controls within the online Gaming sector, with BLIK introducing an automated mechanism to block transactions connected to unauthorized platforms.

The new mechanism took effect on September 1, 2026. BLIK now automatically checks the domain associated with each relevant transaction against a register maintained by Poland’s Ministry of Finance. If the domain appears on the register, the payment is declined before reaching the authorization stage.

The measure applies to both domestic and international transactions, reflecting the increasingly cross-border nature of the online Gaming market. A platform may be legally established in another jurisdiction while still lacking authorization to provide services in Poland.

According to Poland’s Ministry of Finance, the register currently contains more than 55,000 domains, with approximately 700 new entries being added each month.

BLIK is one of Poland’s most widely used payment systems. In 2025, users completed 2.9 billion transactions through BLIK with a total value of PLN 441.5 billion (€102 billion). During the first half of 2026 alone, nearly 1.6 billion transactions worth PLN 244.8 billion (€56.6 billion) were processed.

The development highlights the growing role of payment infrastructure in regulatory compliance. Rather than relying solely on restrictions at the website level, payment systems can increasingly integrate regulatory data into transaction processing to identify and restrict payments involving unauthorized platforms.

As online Gaming continues to operate across borders, closer integration between payment providers, regulators and compliance databases could become an increasingly important part of market supervision.
